Motherboard Wars: Asus Threatens To Sue Gigabyte, Websites
May 16, 2008 - 7:56 PM - by SRTDodge05
Taipei (Taiwan) - There is a new battle brewing in Taiwan and this time it is Asus that is bringing out the big guns against its rival Gigabyte: Gigabyte claimed in a recent presentation in front of journalists that Asus is lat-out lying about power savings and power efficiency of its EPU motherboards. Asus responded saying that Gigabyte is lying and is now threatening to sue Gigabyte as well as websites "spreading" Gigabyte’s claims.
Gigabyte apparently used an event last week in Taipei to tell journalists from hardware websites what it found out about Asus’ EPU motherboards. According to Gigabyte, Asus claims that its physical Energy Processing Unit, short EPU, can achieve power savings of about 80%, while Gigabyte said that number is closer to 59%. And, Gigabyte launched a widely publicized attack on Asus, alleging that the EPU is a... [Read More]

There are no changes in the feature set of the Harpertown quad-core CPUs and Wolfdale dual-core processors, with the exception of the flagship model, which is the sister model of the company’s Skulltrail processor Core 2 Extreme QX9775. The thermal design power (TDP) rating of the Xeon X5482 drops by 20%.
According to a product change notification sent to Intel customers yesterday, all 18 current 45 nm Xeon processors are transitioned to the new stepping with first samples expected to become available on July 3. Fix arrives for AMD machines attacked by XP SP3
May 16, 2008 - 8:05 AM - by SRTDodge05
A KINDLY GEEK has produced a free tool to resurrect AMD machines borked by installing Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.
The fault affects mainly HP machines with an OEM splash screen and a number of Asus mobos, to which XP refuses to talk on the grounds that they're not fully ACPI compliant.
Jesper, over at msinfluentials, has a handy tool you can get your hands on for nothing which is said to fix the problem. Not having tried it ourselves, we cannot say for sure if it works or not, but if you've got a dead AMD system, whaddya got to lose?
